Initial Training & Joining the association

The BLJAofE Training Programme

The Association’s training programme was started in 2007 to bring more people into officiating and to have sufficient numbers of line judges to officiate at the major events on the Badminton England calendar in the years leading up to the Olympics. The programme has been very successful in producing a significant number of new line judges who have gone on to officiate at major events.

Training venues are located in the following regions:

North West (Manchester), North East (York/Newcastle areas), Midlands (Birmingham), South East (Wimbledon and Milton Keynes) and South West (Hampshire). Training Officers in these areas conduct the courses and also oversee a programme of progressing the trainees through a series of local, regional and national events. Mentoring and assessing is a integral part of this programme.

Those with sufficient experience and potential could also be sent to officiate at international championships in Europe.

The regional Training Officers, the National Training Coordinator and the Association Secretary will all give you information about local, regional and national events. You will receive invitations to events that are appropriate to the level you have attained.
